The haunted clinic in Arcachon

It’s almost Halloween, and we’d like to take this opportunity to tell you a scary story about the haunted clinic in Arcachon. The strange phenomena we’re going to relate here were the subject of a report published in the Revue Métapsychique in June 1966. As for the clinic, it was destroyed some time after the events!

Strange and unexplained phenomena that will make your blood run cold!

The story takes place between May and September 1966 in the Arcachon orthopedic clinic then run by Dr. Cuénot, a former Nancy hospital intern, Gold Medal Intern and laureate of the Académie de Médecine. One fine day in May, patients were suddenly pelted with stones, pebbles and bricks as they lay on buggies on the clinic’s terraces. Everyone took refuge indoors, wondering what was going on. As the weeks go by, these “aggressions” are repeated and amplified without any rational explanation… Some patients are even awakened in the middle of the night by violent knocks against their bedroom door. Talk of poltergeists and poltergeists!

A paranormal specialist to the rescue!

With the situation becoming untenable, Dr Cuénot decides to report the matter to the police, who take him for a madman. The clinic’s director calls on Robert Tocquet, a professor of physical sciences and expert in parapsychology, to investigate the stone showers and paranormal phenomena that are terrorizing the clinic! Some stones even seem to be thrown from the windows of unoccupied rooms whose doors are locked! After spending a few weeks at the clinic, the parapsychology expert asserts that these phenomena are not the work of a practical joker. One night, he himself witnesses doors that open by themselves, and knocks on walls… Ghost, Poltergeist, telekinesis? The origin of these mysterious forces will never be clearly identified. In September, the phenomena suddenly ceased. At the end of the investigation, Robert Tocquet delivers his conclusions in a report attesting to the paranormal origin of these manifestations…

What happened to the clinic?

Today, the clinic no longer exists. It has been demolished, and it was on its foundations that we built our Camping Ker Helen! No, don’t worry, we’re only joking! The campsite is located a little further away, on the banks of the Arcachon Basin, in a calm and tranquil setting! It’s a five-storey residence that replaced the clinic.
