When temperatures soar, it’s hard to resist taking a dip. Head for the beach at Le Teich, in the south-east of the Bassin d’Arcachon. In an unspoilt green setting, away from the hustle and bustle of Arcachon’s larger beaches, discover a small haven of peace and coolness where holiday-makers’ families love to gather.

Swimming pool and beach
Situated between the marina and the bird sanctuary, just a few minutes from the 4-star Le Ker Helen campsite, the Le Teich lake offers a safe, landscaped swimming area on the banks of the Eyre, behind the pine forest. You can alternate between swimming, sunbathing, reading on the beach and sandcastles with the kids. The beach is beautiful and quiet, and big enough not to be on top of each other.
Fed by water from the Bassin, this landscaped lake is divided into several bathing areas, where children can always get their feet wet. And unlike ocean beaches, there are no currents or waves, making it a safe place for families. During the summer season, lifeguards watch over bathers from 1.45pm to 7pm.
On site, special facilities enable people with reduced mobility to enjoy the pleasures of the sea or beach. Picnic tables under the trees and a children’s play area make it the perfect place for a relaxing family day out.
The only drawback, if there was one, is that swimming is only possible at high tide. At low tide, a few mud flats make swimming difficult.
Nice walk along the coastal path
Before or after your swim, discover the coastal path bordering the Réserve ornithologique du Teich and the delta of the Eyre, a small coastal river that rises in the Landes département and flows into the Bassin d’Arcachon. Numerous bird species come to shelter, nest or feed in this protected area. In summer, guided tours of the site with a nature guide.
How to get to Le Teich beach (on foot or by bike)
A small parking lot is a 10-minute walk from the beach. A duckboard path leads to the swimming pool. From Ker Helen, it’s a 5-minute bike ride.
